Gully Lake and Juniper Head Trail Hike - a Hike Nova Scotia 2018 Fall Hike Series Event: Sunday, September 30, 2018
Location: Juniper Trail on Glen Road, Pictou County and going west into Colchester Co. and then returning

A scenic and historical 18.5 km challenging loop hike for hikers in good physical condition

This is the most challenging single-day hike currently in the Cape to Cape Trail system in Colchester and Pictou Counties.  It is an area rich in the histories of log drives, woods camp small pox outbreaks, the Hermit of Gully Lake, a geologic fault between two tectonic plates dating 380 million years, several waterfalls, and a salmon river - all set against a backdrop of fall colours.

Hike will start and finish at the parking area at the trailhead of the Juniper Head Trail on the Glen Road  which is located on the Old Pictou Road from Saltsprings to Truro.

There are no 'bail out' points along the route, so hikers must be certain of their physical and mental ability to complete 18.5 km hike over a full day of approximately 8 hours - 6 hours of hiking and 2 hours of rest/photo stops.

The trails are exceptionally well marked and are moderately difficult in terms of terrain, but the total distance is the reason this hike is rated 'challenging.'

Hikers must pre-register for this hike by the end of 24 September by emailing the Hike Leader, Alasdair Veitch, at nwtrunner@gmail.com or calling/texting 902-616-6632 - all pre-registrants will receive, by email, an information package containing maps of the trails and parking areas/access roads, details on the hike and hike conditions, and an equipment list.  Alasdair is always willing to try to answer any questions interested or potentially interested hikers may have.

The hike will begin at 9:00 am sharp on 30 September (weather permitting) so participants should be at the Glen Road parking area around 8:30 am to organize equipment and hear the hike introduction and welcome.
